Al Sharpton said he wished other candidates were running for president on his radio show Keepin’ It Real, just minutes before he interviewed Hillary Clinton Thursday.
"A lot of people say, ‘Well I wish so-and-so had run, I wish so-and-so had run,’" Sharpton said. "Well, I do too, but they didn’t. And we are going to have to deal with the lot that is out there."
The MSNBC host threw Clinton under the bus on the very same show he interviewed her about race and voter ID laws. Sharpton’s comments came a mere 55 minutes before he welcomed the Democratic frontrunner.
"We can be mad or glad. We can be up or down. One of these people are going to decide the next Supreme Court judges. One of these people are going to be the ones whose going to have the power of the White House behind it," Sharpton said. "So we better deal with these issues, with these people."
Sharpton has had a long and difficult relationship with the Clintons. The boisterous voice of the liberal movement said he will wait until the winter to make an official endorsement. From his comments on Thursday, it appears Clinton has a long way to go to lock up Sharpton’s vote.
"It’s not like if we just don’t like them, or we’re not turned on, that that’s going to stop one of them from being the next president."
