The South Carolina House voted early Thursday morning to remove the Confederate flag from statehouse grounds, the Washington Post reported.

House lawmakers engaged in 13 hours of debate before approving the legislation, which is expected to be signed by Republican Gov. Nikki Haley, who following the June Charleston shooting called for the removal of the Confederate flag from the state Capitol.

The House voted 94-20 to remove the flag days after the bill swiftly passed the Senate.

Several Republican presidential candidates have called for the removal of the flag, including South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders have also backed the removal of the flag.
