The head of the United Nations panel on climate change resigned from his post Tuesday morning due to of an investigation into whether he is guilty of sexually harassing one of his researchers.

India's Rajendra Pachauri chaired the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and was one of the recipients of a Nobel Peace Prize awarded in 2007.

Politico reports:

Pachauri declined to attend this week’s IPCC meeting in Kenya after Indian officials opened an inquest into a 29-year-old woman’s claims that he sent her unwelcome text messages, emails and WhatsApp messages.

"Here I am sitting and chairing an IPCC meeting and surreptitiously sending you messages. I hope that tells you of my feelings for you! *.*" Pachauri texted the woman on Oct. 15, 2013, according to a report from Indian newspaper Mail Today that published numerous emails and messages between the two.

Pachauri claims his communications were hacked and denies the allegations of sexual misconduct.
