National Security Adviser Susan Rice is scheduled to address an upcoming event at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank that has received millions of dollars from the government of Qatar.
Brookings has accepted more than $7 million from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates since 2013 to fund research issues related to Iranian nuclear negotiations and terrorism, the Washington Free Beacon reported Thursday. The financial information was disclosed as part of a new House of Representatives rule that requires non-government congressional witnesses to report foreign funding to their organizations that could be related to their testimony.
The New York Times reported in September that Qatar pledged $14.8 million to Brookings in 2013. The think tank has also opened a branch in Doha.
The Obama administration has come under fire for its outreach to Qatar, a top financial backer of Hamas.
The White House National Security Council tweeted Tuesday that Rice will be at Brookings "for the launch of President Obama’s national security strategy."
