Obama Won't Say Whether He Would Have Approved Enhanced Interrogations After 9/11

December 10, 2014

In an interview with MSNBC’s Jose Díaz-Balart that aired Wednesday, President Obama refused to answer whether he would have approved enhanced interrogations of terrorists with vital intelligence.

"So if you were president, commander in chief, after 9/11, you see no scenario where you would have agreed to steps, some of the things outlined in the report?" Díaz-Balart asked.

"You know I'm not going to engage in the hypotheticals," Obama said. "What I said in the past, and what I'll repeat is that nobody can fully understand what it was responsible for the safety and security of the American people in the aftermath of the worst attack on our national soil."

Obama emphasized the need for oversight and to make sure such interrogation techniques are not used again.
