MSNBC: Chris Matthews Calls Elections A Republican ‘Wave’

November 5, 2014

Some might not consider the large number of Republican wins a "wave" in Tuesday’s elections.

But not Chris Matthews.

"This is, I would call, a wave," Matthews said Tuesday night.

After Republicans locked a majority in both the House and the Senate, Congress is set for a showdown with Barack Obama in his last two years as president.

Matthews stood by his claim, citing surprise wins across the country.

"People will dispute the use of the term," Matthews said. "But the fact that Maryland, which is endemically gut-level Democrat, with a decent candidate," fell to Larry Hogan (R., Md.), shows just how significant these elections were.
