During her time as President Obama's secretary of state, Hillary Clinton's approval ratings were sky-high.
However, as Clinton bolsters herself as a presidential prospect, her ratings have taken a dive. A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll released Tuesday shows that just 43 percent of registered voters view Clinton positively, compared to the 41 percent that harbor negative views of her.
In February 2009, a majority 59 percent of Americans viewed her positively. Just 22 percent held negative views. In July, the Washington Free Beacon's Ellison Barber predicted that Clinton's approval ratings would plummet because her poll numbers were "artificially inflated."
"She avoided a lot of criticism until Benghazi, and then it started to pick up," Barber said.
Barber also said that her popularity would fall among Republicans and Independents, which has proven true.
But Clinton has even lost some of her own party. In 2009, 87 percent of Democrats viewed Clinton positively--and only three percent viewed her negatively. But in the latest poll, 72 percent view her positively. Thirteen percent have negative feelings about the potential candidate.
