Lawmakers Move to Prevent Libyans from Training in US Flight Schools

September 8, 2014

Republican lawmakers in Congress are pushing to prevent the Obama administration from reversing a law that prevents Libyan nations from training in U.S. flight schools, as well as in nuclear sciences, according to reports.

The Washington Free Beacon first reported last month that the Obama administration had approved a regulation that would reverse a 1983 law barring Libyans from studying these sensitive fields in the United States.

Administration sources said at the time that the reversal was necessary to improve relations with the Libyan government and help train its military.

Republican lawmakers argue that, two years after four Americans were killed in the Benghazi, Libya, attacks, now is not the time to reverse the ban, the Washington Times reported.
