CNN: Montana Is A 'Lost Cause' For Democrats After Walsh Withdraws Over Plagiarism Scandal

Since Democrat John Walsh withdrew from the Montana Senate race in the wake of his plagiarism scandal, CNN political guests have bleak predictions for Democrats' chances in that state.

Walsh ended his campaign after the New York Times reported that he had lifted much of his masters thesis from other sources, often word for word and uncited.

Politico's Maggie Haberman observed on CNN Friday that, following Walsh's resignation, Democrats "are having a hard time getting anybody who actually wants to be the person who is the place holder, because you're sort of running for a lost cause. Most Democrats that I talked to do not believe Montana is winnable anymore."

"There certainly was not a rush of people jumping into that race," agreed Maeve Reston of the Los Angeles Times, "which Democrats had pretty much written off as a lost cause anyway."

"'Pick me, pick me'," CNN's John King added sarcastically.
