Shorter TNR: 'Hey, Daily Currant, You're a Big Fat Phony!'

Emmett Rensin, right, denounces Peter Griffin
June 7, 2014

There's a longish piece over at the New Republic about satire sites disapproved of by one Emmett Rensin, with particular emphasis on the Daily Currant and the fact that journos are constantly getting taken in by its serious tone and (extremely) dry wit. Because these sites sell ads and don't end each post with "THE ARISTOCRATS!" they are bad for the republic or some such; Rensin even kind of darkly hints that someone should try to sue them out of existence.

I could note that satire ≠ comedy (again), but Charles Cooke's response is pithier:

Indeed. Rensin's piece is basically a long, midcult take on this Family Guy gag:

THE DAILY CURRANT'S A PHONY YOU GUYS. A BIG FAT PHONY.

And Emmett Rensin is on it.
