Tristate coal miners gathered to compete for the title of the best Ohio Valley Mine Rescue Team. Despite their cool, confident demeanors during the competition, they were scared about the uncertainty of the jobs as coal miners because of President Obama’s recent EPA regulations.
"People need jobs and these are high paying, good jobs for people and they’re basically cutting them," contestant Nathan Huff told WOWK-WV.
Mark Shaver explained "If you’re not using coal, the rate of your power is going to go up. It’s going to affect not just coal mining communities, it’s going to affect everybody that has electricity."
"By the sound of it, most of these miners are going to be losing their jobs," added Charles Ghent.
Gary Bolyard concluded, "We need to work with the EPA instead of against each other. We need to be united."
