Sen. Charles Schumer (D., N.Y.) said Wednesday he does not know President Obama's position on whether Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, in an interview with Charlie Rose and Norah O'Donnell.
Released this week, the Democratic Party platform removed language from the 2008 platform that declared Jerusalem the capital of Israel, among other substantive changes regarding Israel.
"It's not in the platform," Schumer said of the Jerusalem changes. "I don't know why it's in or not in."
The Senator said President Obama has been for a "very strong Israel," when asked by Charlie Rose on his position on Israel.
"But what's the president's position on Jerusalem?" Rose asked.
"I don't know, you'd have to ask him," Schumer said. "I've always assumed that the Democratic position (is that the capital is Jerusalem)."
White House press secretary Jay Carney garnered attention in July when he refused to name the capital of Israel at a press briefing.
"You know our position," Carney said.
