Sen. Al Franken (D., Minn.) said Sunday that Comcast's plans to purchase Time Warner Cable would harm competition and raise the price of cable television and broadband Internet for consumers.
"This is a disaster," Franken said on CNN’s Reliable Sources.
Franken also argued that fellow politicians and CEO’s of big media companies are afraid to speak out against the deal due to "retaliation."
"They think they are committing business suicide by, you know, that they'll be retaliated against, and that shows you what's wrong here," he said.
"I think Comcast does give money to people who support them. Not necessarily to buy their support, but yes, I really don't like the role of money in politics," Franken added.
