The Republican National Committee is asking the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library to turn over documents related to Hillary Clinton, which it says have been improperly withheld from the public for the past year.
RNC senior counsel Daniel Powers made the request under the Freedom of Information Act in a letter to Clinton Library officials on Friday.
"Thousands of pages of documents at the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library, including some communications with Hillary Clinton, have been improperly withheld from public access for over one year," wrote Powers, noting that the withholding period for these documents expired last January.
The Clinton Library began releasing documents last week, after Politico reported that the withholding period had been expired for over a year.
"The release of these communications is a positive development, but the question of why these documents were not released in January 2013 remains unanswered," wrote Powers.
The letter requests any and all correspondence between representatives of Bill and Hillary Clinton and National Archives and Records Administration staff regarding the "review, consideration or withholding" of documents in the Clinton Library.
