Boehner: Let's Work Together to Build the Keystone Pipeline

January 28, 2014

Speaker of the House John Boehner (R., Ohio) made a statement Tuesday urging the president and the Democrat-controlled U.S. Senate to work with House Republicans on building the Keystone Pipeline and finding common ground on House-passed jobs bills.

The Keystone Pipeline is widely viewed as an opportunity to create thousands of jobs and bring about greater U.S. energy independence, but President Obama has stonewalled on the initiative, despite a crumbling environmentalist case against its construction.

Full statement:

JOHN BOEHNER:  Tonight we're looking forward to hearing from the President and from our colleague Cathy McMorris Rodgers. Cathy will deliver a personal and conservative message for the American people. Listen, this has been the House's focus. We've passed dozens of jobs bills that continue to languish in the United States Senate. The president says he wants to make this a year of action. Well, it sounds good but let's work together to pass trade promotion authority that would expand exports and create more jobs in America. Let's work together on building the Keystone Pipeline and the tens of thousands of jobs that would be created as a result. Let's work together to find common ground on the dozens of House-passed jobs bills that are sitting over in the United States Senate that really will help the American people have a better shot at a better job and higher wages.
