Woodward: Obama 'Not a Good Negotiator'

December 15, 2013

Veteran journalist Bob Woodward said President Obama's lack of involvement in the budget negotiations last week was a key part of why it worked on Fox News Sunday.

Woodward said flatly that Obama "is not a good negotiator" and that the leadership by Rep. Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) and Speaker of the House John Boehner (R., Ohio) was instrumental in getting the deal passed in the House.

"I think this budget deal worked, quite frankly, let's go right to the center of this, because Obama was not part of the negotiations," Woodward said. "He is not a good negotiator. I think Paul Ryan comes off as somebody ... he is a conservative, but the philosophy that he employed here is very significant. Sitting down with the Democrats and saying what is our common ground? What can we agree on? And it is indeed small, but it's a step forward."
