Axelrod: 'I Have Great Empathy for My Colleagues in the White House'

President Obama's Thursday press conference was so rough and the tumult enveloping the administration over the continuing Obamacare debacle is so great, MSNBC contributor David Axelrod confessed he felt sorry for his former co-workers Friday on Morning Joe.

"I have great empathy for my colleagues in the White House," he said. "My operative theory in life is you're never as smart as you look when you're winning, and you're never as dumb as you look when you're losing, and I always kept that mind in periods like this. You just have to fight your way through it."

Axelrod was a top advisor to Obama during his first term and helped him get elected in 2008 and 2012.
