CBS affiliate WNCT reports a woman was walking her dog without a leash at around dusk when a 500-pound alligator snatched her pet. Police think the alligator may have mistaken the dog for a large duck.
Authorities returned to the area and had to fire at it three times with a high-powered rifle to kill it.
