A top aide to Georgia Democratic Senate candidate Jon Ossoff deleted a tweet showing her donation to a controversial bail fund just a week after it was revealed by the Free Beacon.
The Ossoff campaign has still not commented on the contribution by deputy press secretary Rhyan Lake to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, which earned negative headlines after it used the flood of money it received during the riots that occurred after the death of George Floyd to bail out individuals charged with crimes ranging from sexual assault to murder. The tweet disclosing Lake's donation, however, has in the days since been deleted.
A record of Lake's tweet remains available at web.archive.org.
The far-left bail fund, which gained prominence following the riots in Minneapolis and other cities across the country, has said it is willing to bail out criminals regardless of what crime was committed due to a hatred of the entire justice system.
"I don't even look at a charge when I bail someone out," the fund's board president Greg Lewin said. "The point is the system we're fighting."
"A lot of people are saying ‘F the police,'" Lewin also said. "Those same people, quite frankly, should be thinking ‘F the courts,' ‘F the jail' because that is part of the same cycle."
Lake did not delete another tweet, also included in the Free Beacon's report, that echoed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's (D., N.Y.) support for the "Defund the Police" movement. Ossoff's campaign did not return a request for comment on that tweet either.
