Hunter Biden, son of President-elect Joe Biden, revealed Wednesday that his taxes are under investigation by a federal prosecutor.

"I learned yesterday for the first time that the U.S. Attorney's Office in Delaware advised my legal counsel, also yesterday, that they are investigating my tax affairs," Hunter Biden said in a joint statement with his father's transition team. "I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors."

The Biden-Harris transition team said in the statement that Biden remains "deeply proud of his son."

"President-elect Biden is deeply proud of his son, who has fought through difficult challenges, including the vicious personal attacks of recent months, only to emerge stronger," the statement said.

Hunter Biden has faced scrutiny in the past for his tax obligations. The younger Biden paid off a $450,000 tax lien in July despite purportedly having no income. And his lucrative financial entanglements while his father was vice president, especially with Chinese companies, were a liability for Joe Biden's presidential campaign.
