President of the Heritage Foundation Jim DeMint explained the high costs of immigration reform Monday morning.
"The number over the 50-year lifespan of amnesty for unlawful immigrants is $6.3 trillion to the american taxpayer" the former South Carolina senator told Fox News' Martha MacCallum.
"We know over time this is going to increase debt and raise taxes that has a depressing effect on our economy. We know that unlawful immigrants, once they have amnesty are going to replace the jobs of many americans and depress their salaries," DeMint said.
DeMint was citing a new report released by the Heritage Foundation that lays out all of the costs associated with illegal immigration and amnesty for current illegal immigrants.
