A spokesman for libertarian philanthropists David and Charles Koch fired back at billionaire gas tycoon T. Boone Pickens, who recently said, “The biggest deterrent to an energy plan in America is Koch Industries.”
In a marathon Thursday session over a highway transportation bill, Senate Democrats blocked three energy amendments, killing legislation to expand offshore oil drilling, push forward with the Keystone XL oil pipeline, and delay EPA clean-air regulations.
The Washington Post reports T. Boone Pickens was among the natural gas industry’s donors to green groups, including a nearly half-million dollar donation to the Center for American Progress, while he was advocating for legislation that would have directly benefitted a company he founded.
The Obama administration and Congress have renewed a push for increased natural gas production in the U.S., but behind their claims of reduced oil consumption and pollution are a network of financial interests, cozy relationships, and wealthy investors.
