Conservative Fox News host Sean Hannity has been advising Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for months, according to a New York Times report.

Hannity has "for months peppered" Trump, his family, and his formal advisers on campaign strategy and messaging.

While Hannity has spent large portions of his popular Fox News program, which draws about 2.5 million viewers, broadcasting Trump and his campaign message, the host maintained that he was not looking for a position in a Trump administration.

"I’m not hiding the fact that I want Donald Trump to be the next president of the United States," Hannity told the Times. "I never claimed to be a journalist."

Hannity does not try to hide his bias towards Trump and said to the Times he feels that it makes him more honest than most of the mainstream reporters, who he claims hide their own liberal biases.

"Do I talk to my friend who I’ve known for years and speak my mind? I can’t not speak my mind,’’ he said.

But, Mr. Hannity said, "I don’t say anything privately that I don’t say publicly.’’ And, he acknowledged, it’s unclear how far his advice goes with Mr. Trump, given that "nobody controls him."
