Gallup Poll: Americans Overwhelmingly Want GOP Congress to Set Country's Agenda, Not Obama

November 12, 2014

A new Gallup poll released Tuesday showed that the majority of Americans trust the incoming Republican Congress over President Obama to set the nation on the right track.

53 percent of respondents indicated they preferred Republicans in Congress to lead the direction of the United States, while only 36 percent preferred Obama.

MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski said 2014 voters are showing "no sign of buyer’s remorse" following the Republican sweep on November 4.

As the opposition party, Republicans increased their margin over Obama since the 2010 midterm elections (eight points) and the 2012 election (four points).

The poll’s results also showed that more Americans think the country will be "better off" with Republicans in Congress.

"The midterm election provided a clear signal as to which party voters want to control Congress," Gallup’s Lydia Saad wrote. "That message is echoed in the results of the latest Gallup poll showing Americans expressly asking for the Republicans--rather than Obama--to guide the direction the country takes in the next year."
