Former Clinton Counsel: Hillary 'Hasn't Changed a Single Position in Her Entire Career'

July 2, 2015

Former Clinton White House counsel Lanny Davis claimed Thursday that Hillary Clinton has never changed a position in her entire career.

The remarks came in the context of discussing underdog presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), who is becoming a problem for Clinton. Sanders’ most recent rally in Madison, Wis.,, had an attendance of over 10,000 people and his progressive views and ideas are gaining strength with left-leaning voters.

When Davis was asked on Fox Business if Sanders’ progressive stances were forcing her to move farther left than she is comfortable with, Davis quickly took to her defense.

"She hasn’t changed a single position in her entire career," Davis said. "She's been a progressive Democrat."

It is profoundly inaccurate to say Clinton has never once shifted a position.

Clinton recently changed her stance in strong favor of gay marriage, not too long before the Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution guaranteed a right to same-sex marriage. In 2004, when she was Sen. Clinton (D., N.Y.), she said marriage was a "sacred bond between a man and a woman."

Clinton has also changed her stance on the Iraq War. In 2002, then-Sen. Clinton voted for giving President George W. Bush the authorization to use military force in Iraq. In recent years, she’s said she made a mistake.

Finally, Clinton has recently changed her stance on immigration. While in Las Vegas in May, Clinton said she was going to go farther than President Obama on providing protection for illegal immigrants. That’s far different from 2003 when she was on the John Gambling Radio Show, where she said that she was "adamantly against illegal immigrants."
