Rep. Brenda Lawrence (D., Mich.) has been given an eviction notice at her apartment in Washington, D.C. for failure to pay her rent.
The Daily Caller was told about the notice by one of Lawrence’s neighbors, who saw the summons on August 2.
Lawrence is supposed to show up on August 8 in D.C. Superior Court for a hearing, according to the summons request.
The apartment building is in the growing and gentrifying Navy Yard neighborhood of southern Washington, D.C., just blocks from the House of Representatives.
The Daily Caller noted that this is not the first eviction notice Lawrence has received.
It’s not the first time Lawrence has failed to pay rent. In 2010, when Lawrence was running for lieutenant governor of Michigan, a condo co-owned by Lawrence and her daughter was hit with a foreclosure notice after falling over $75,000 behind in mortgage payments. Lawrence brought the account up to date shortly after the foreclosure notice came to light.
Before Lawrence began her term in the House, she served as the mayor of Southfield, Michigan. Before then, she spent most of her career in the United States Postal Service.
