American Crossroads unleashed a fierce ad today rebranding embattled Sen. Mary Landrieu (D.,La.) as a senator representing Washington, D.C. instead of Louisiana, her home state in which she’s locked in a tense reelection campaign.
Landrieu has been embroiled in a series of controversies of late, the most recent being revelations that she’s been using her parent’s home as her primary address in Louisiana. That juxtaposes brutally against the backdrop of Landrieu's lavish Capitol Hill home in D.C. that is a popular location for Democratic fundraisers. A former challenger is suing Landrieu over claims she lives full time in Washington.
Earlier in August, records showed that Landrieu had used taxpayer funds to charter private flights to attend fundraisers. Landrieu apologized credited the violation to a bookkeeping error and refunded the expenses.
Landrieu’s opponent, Rep. Bill Cassidy (R.), is leading by one point according to a Rear Clear Politics poll.
