Washington Free Beacon editor in chief Matthew Continetti appeared Wednesday on Fox News' Special Report and discussed President-elect Donald Trump's picks so far for his cabinet and senior staff, comparing them to Ronald Reagan's selections.
The panel discussion initially focused on Trump's nomination for secretary of education, Betsy DeVos. Continetti said that if any conflicts come between DeVos and Trump on Common Core, Devos will have to back Trump's position.
Continetti then compared Trump's emerging administration to that of Reagan in 1980-1981.
"Looking at the Trump administration as it's taking shape, it's very similar to the Reagan administration," Continetti said. "Where you kind of had the ideological conservatives who made up the core of the Reagan movement, but then you also had establishment Republicans like Jim Baker who kind of came on board after Reagan was elected and tried to steer the ship of state in a little bit more of a traditional way."
Continetti went on to say that the administration will have many Trump loyalists, but a surprising number of establishment Republicans will make up Trump's new cabinet.
