CNN Anchor Mistakes 'Star Spangled Banner' for French National Anthem

July 13, 2017

CNN anchor Poppy Harlow mistook the "Star Spangled Banner" for the French national anthem when President Donald Trump met with French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday.

Harlow was covering the arrival of Trump in Paris, the Daily Caller reported. After Trump and Macron shook hands, they listened to a band play the United States national anthem.

Harlow was pointing out how fighting the Islamic State is a key factor of America's relationship with France when the band started playing the anthem in the background.

"Let's just listen in to the French national anthem for just a moment," Harlow said, directing viewers to the scene of the two presidents.

Trump stood with his hand over his heart, while Macron stood with his hands by his sides.

About 10 seconds and a whispered interaction later, Harlow corrected herself. It could be assumed that the whispers were from a producer who realized Harlow's mistake, the Daily Caller concluded.

"The U.S.—American national anthem—I should say. Let's listen," Harlow said as the band completed the "Star Spangled Banner."
