Ahmed Mohamed, the ninth grader who was arrested for bringing a homemade clock to school, met Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir Wednesday, according to state media reports.
BBC reported:
The boy’s father, Mohamed Hassan al-Sufi, is a Sudanese immigrant to the U.S. and a former presidential candidate who ran against Mr Bashir. The Sudan leader is wanted by the International Criminal Court for alleged war crimes in Darfur, which he denies. Ahmed said he was pleased to meet the president and vowed to return one day with a new invention, according to the radio broadcast.
Mohamed has also been invited to the White House. President Obama tweeted his support of the high school student in September after the clock incident, writing, "Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It's what makes America great."
The 14-year-old was arrested after he brought a digital clock he built himself to his Texas high school. Teachers had mistaken the device for a bomb.
