Opposition to Syria Airstrikes Surges

A Pew Research poll released Monday showed that opposition to U.S. airstrikes in Syria has surged from 48 percent to 63 percent.

The poll shows support for airstrikes has remained steady at 28 percent.

Republican opposition has increased the most, according to the poll. Republicans were divided in a poll taken a week ago, with 35 percent favoring and 40 percent opposing airstrikes. The most recent poll shows Republicans oppose airstrikes by 70 percent to 21 percent.

Opposition has also increased by 15 points among independents.

Additionally, the poll found that only 32 percent of Americans believe President Barack Obama has made the case for airstrikes. Forty-eight percent believe he has not explained the reasons for a strike clearly.
