Psaki Cannot Detail 'Lessons Learned' From Rise Of ISIL

September 30, 2014

State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki dodged questions and spoke in circles after Associated Press reporter Matt Lee asked her to detail the "lessons learned" from the rise of ISIL.

After Psaki refused to speak about the lessons and claimed she had already spoken about one of them in her response to a previous question, Lee pressed further.

"Is one of them that it was perhaps unwise not to push harder for an agreement to keep a residual force in Iraq," Lee said. "Is that one of the lessons?"

Lee noted that a continued military presence could have "served as a barometer for the ability of the Iraqi army to fight," and mentioned the Bilateral Security Agreement signed with the Afghani government as a potential indicator of a "lesson learned" from Iraq.

"I think I just talked about one, I don't think I need to go through every history component here," Psaki said.
