Gal Gadot More Wonderful in Person than in First Image as Wonder Woman

July 28, 2014

We already knew Avengers 2 was going to be awesome so the big news to come out of San Diego was to see what Warner Bros. and D.C. had in store for Man of Steel 2 Batman vs. SupermanBatman v. Superman: Dawn of the Prequel To Catch Up to Marvel With A Justice League Movie.

So how did Warner Bros. feed the nerd beast?

Really? That’s it? Just a mock-up of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman? I’ve seen photoshopped iterations of her in the role at least 30 times since December when she was first tabbed for the role. She looked more full of wonder at the movie's panel than she did in the promo image.

It's not even that much different from this photo Gal posted on her Facebook last June.

What's most disappointing about the promo image is that it looks like they handed Emily Deschanel a sword and threw it in an Instagram filter.

The Internet may explode in a fury of feminist rage if Zack Synder forces Gal to play dizzy bat in order to transform into Wonder Woman. However, Gal is prepared to twirl if duty calls.

Gal’s been getting swole since February and she looks just as fantastic as she did in 2011's Fast 5. The promo image just doesn't look like Gal is quite ready to assume Wonder Woman's heavy mantle.

Sunny-disposed Adrianne Palicki  looked more equipped in her failed 2011 WW television pilot to put up her dukes against mopey Superman and Batman than Gal looks in that image. What's the deal?

Canadian film critics Matt Brown and Matt Price pointed out how the costume is fairly run of the mill. For Wonder Woman's big screen debut, Gal looks more like a character in Sucker Punch than she does as Diana Prince. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just something we’ve seen photoshopped countless times before.

You've already made Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck look somewhat super badass in their promo images. Why not let Gal put that gym time to use and fill out some chain mail?

I agree with the Weekly Planet podcast: if Captain America 3 and Batman v. Superman still both come out on on May 6, 2016, even if Cap 3 sizes up to be a better movie, BvS will make more money just because we’ve already seen a Captain America movie before. We’ve never seen Wonder Woman in a movie before. Gal won't need a gun, but she'll be sure to dazzle in the role.

Possibly the biggest tease from the weekend came when the Rock tweeted out a tease that could have redeemed an overhyped and underdelivering Comic Con 2014.

How easy would it be just to photoshop a lightning bolt on his chest in this pic?
