Anti-Gun Group Mayor Arrested for DUI, Attacking Clock

November 22, 2013

A member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence and punching a police department clock last Saturday, the latest member of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun group to run into trouble with the law.

Monticello, N.Y., Mayor Gordon Jenkins (D.) was charged with DUI, refusing a breathalyzer, obstruction of justice and criminal mischief last Saturday, after authorities noticed he appeared drunk when he showed up to survey the scene of a local car wreck.

After being brought to the police station, Jenkins reportedly smashed a clock on the wall and had to be handcuffed to a chair.

Jenkins pled not guilty during his arraignment last Sunday. His first court appearance was Friday, and his license has reportedly been suspended.

This is not Jenkins’s first run-in with the law. He pled guilty in 2011 for selling knockoff Nikes out of his hip-hop clothing store, G-Man Beauty Supplies.

There are also pending charges against him for an alleged altercation he had with a police officer outside the shop last year.

Jenkins previously worked as correctional officer.

He joins a growing list of legally-challenged Mayors Against Illegal Guns members.

Spring Valley, N.Y., Mayor Noramie Jasmin (D.) was arrested in April for allegedly accepting bribes from an FBI informant. In March, Gainesville, Fla., Mayor Craig Lowe was charged with a DUI after police found him asleep at the scene of a car accident.

Marcus Hook, Pa., Mayor James Schiliro was arrested for reckless endangerment after allegedly firing a handgun inside his home during a drunken argument with a 20-year-old man.

Other current and former MAIG members have been charged with felony corruption, assault of a police officer, and child sex crimes.
