Steve Israel: No, Not All Republicans Are Racist

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Steve Israel (D., N.Y.) told State of the Union Sunday that no, not all Republicans are racist.

The issue came up when host Candy Crowley addressed Attorney General Eric Holder's comments this week that he and President Obama had faced unprecedented adversity due to their race. While Holder was criticized for playing the race card, many liberals eager to use that talking point supported his remarks.

"Do you think your Republican colleagues are racist?" Crowley asked.

"Not all of them, no. Of course not," Israel said. "But to a significant extent, the Republican base does have elements that are animated by racism and that's unfortunate."

The interview, done alongside National Republican Congressional Committee chair Greg Walden (R., Ore.), discussed in great deal the uphill battle congressional Democrats face in 2014. In recent weeks, accusations of racism and a bizarre obsession with the Koch brothers by prominent Democrats seem to reflect a desperate attitude in a tough political climate.
