Pocahontas Descendant on Warren: 'I Wish She'd Just Take the DNA Test'

May 2, 2018

Debbie 'White Dove' Porreco, a descendant of Pocahontas, told Fox News on Tuesday that she wishes Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) would take a DNA test to prove her Native American ancestry and put an end to the controversy.

"I respect Senator Warren as a U.S. senator," Porreco said, "but I just wish she'd take the DNA test. And if she took the DNA test, then that would end a lot of this controversy."

"And if she was part American Indian, I'd be the first one to welcome her into our heritage," she said.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson asked her why she thinks Warren is avoiding the test.

"I know, I know, maybe she's afraid she's not [Native American]. It's not right and it's offensive that she doesn't take it, but you can't make somebody take something if she doesn't want to," she said.

When asked if she would press Warren to take it if the senator were in a room with her, she said, "oh yes, yes I would."

President Donald Trump has called Warren 'Pocahontas' at various times in the past, a reference to her unsubstantiated claim to Cherokee heritage. Warren's opponent in a 2012 Senate race, Scott Brown, criticized her for claiming heritage to gain an advantage in her academic career.

Warren, citing family lore, still insists she has Native American ancestry despite a lack of documentation or other evidence to prove so.
