Gov. Martin O'Malley said Sunday the country is not better off after four years. Monday, he changed his mind.
"We are clearly better off as a country because we’re now creating jobs rather than losing them," O'Malley said Monday on CNN's "Starting Point." "But we have not recovered all that we lost in the Bush recession. That’s why we need to continue to move forward."
A number of Obama campaign officials and surrogates were asked questions Sunday about whether the country is better off after four years of the Obama presidency, largely in reference to Mitt Romney's Thursday convention speech. While some struggled with the question, only the Maryland governor said outright that the country was not better off.
"No, but that's not the question of this election," O'Malley said Sunday, when asked by Bob Schieffer.
O'Malley joins the list of Obama surrogates -- including, most prominently, Mayor Cory Booker -- forced to walk back comments.
