The Senate on Tuesday confirmed South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley to be the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Haley was confirmed by a vote of 96 to 4, the Associated Press reported. Haley was widely lauded by both Republicans and Democrats after Donald Trump nominated her for the position in his administration.

Sen. Bob Corker (R., Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, praised Haley and said that she would advocate for America at the U.N.

One of the votes against Haley came from Sen. Chris Coons (D., Del.), who said that Haley was not sufficiently qualified for the position and would be "learning on the job."

Haley succeeds Ambassador Samantha Power, who has been in the position since 2013.
