Nancy Pelosi Calls Sen. Nina Turner ‘Tina Turner’ at DNC Women’s Leadership Forum

October 23, 2015

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) mistakenly called former Ohio State Sen. Nina Turner "Tina Turner" at the DNC Women’s Leadership Forum on Friday.

"Ohio State Sen. Tina Turner, doesn’t she turn it on for all of us?" Pelosi said.

Members of the crowd were quick to correct Pelosi. Several yelled out "Nina."

Pelosi realized her mistake and corrected herself.

"I said Tina," Pelosi said, laughing.

"I know Nina full well. In fact, my daughter Christine sings her praises practically everyday. Thank you, Nina."

Turner was selected to fill a vacant Ohio state senate seat in 2008. She ran unopposed for re-election in 2010. In 2014, Turner ran for Secretary of State in Ohio and lost.

Turner is considered a rising star among Democrats, with frequent appearances on MSNBC, where she championed progressive causes.

After her loss, Turner promised to stay involved in politics.
