New Missouri Rising Digital Ad Attacks 'Millionaire' McCaskill for Being Out of Touch With Voters

January 5, 2018

Missouri Rising, a state chapter of the conservative group America Rising Squared, on Friday launched a digital advertisement targeting Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill (Mo.), describing her "untold story" as a wealthy liberal who is "out for herself."

The ad, titled "Rich and Liberal," highlights how McCaskill, who was first elected to the Senate in 2006, has become a "millionaire" during her time in office and now lives a luxurious lifestyle that is out of touch with Missourians.

"While Missouri families struggle, Claire McCaskill is living large," a game-show-like narrator says in the ad.

The video, which was released on YouTube, is set to run for the next two weeks on Facebook, Twitter, and other online platforms, according to a Missouri Rising email.

The ad focuses on McCaskill's vulnerabilities, including the nearly $76,000 in taxpayer money she spent to fly on a charter plane she co-owns with her husband and other investors, her $2.7 million condo in Washington, D.C., and her tendency to vote with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) about 88 percent of the time.

"An elitist liberal, Claire McCaskill votes with radical Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren 88 percent of the time, while cutting thousands in checks to Hillary Clinton," the ad says, looking to appeal to swing voters.

"Millionaire Claire McCaskill," the advertisement concludes. "She's rich. She's liberal. She's out for herself."

McCaskill is up for reelection in 2018 in a state that President Donald Trump won by nearly 20 percentage points over Hillary Clinton, who McCaskill backed in 2016.
