Gov. Eric Greitens (R., Mo.) on Wednesday called for a special session of the Missouri General Assembly to pass pro-life measures.

Greitens made the call in a video posted to Twitter.

The Republican governor spoke of pregnancy care centers in Missouri that help pregnant women and new moms with food, clothing, medical care, and financial support. He also praised them for helping women with job training, education, and for protecting them from domestic abuse.

Greitens then talked about a new city law that passed in St. Louis which made the city an "abortion sanctuary city." These new measures would make it harder for pregnancy care centers to hire pro-life individuals.

The governor said that the State Senate failed to act against St. Louis. In his video, Greitens called for measures on abortion facilities.

"We're calling a special session to support the people in doing this vital work to help women and children," Greitens said.

"I also believe that we should have common sense health and safety standards in all medical facilities," he said. "A court decision from earlier this year weakened our state's health standards in abortion clinics. So we're also proposing some basic, common sense standards to keep Missourians safe."

Greitens proposed that abortion clinics have an annual safety inspection, a plan for complications and that abortion clinics should be prevented from interfering with emergency responders.
