Sen. John McCain said Wednesday he believes the attack at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was a targeted act of terrorism during an interview with the TODAY Show.
"Do you believe that Ambassador Stevens was the intended target of terrorists?" co-host Savannah Guthrie asked.
"I do," McCain replied. "I think the indications of how this attack was carried out clearly indicate that's the case."
Amb. Christopher Stevens was killed Tuesday, along with three other Americans, at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi.
CNN reported Wednesday the top suspect for the attacks is a pro-al Qaeda group that carried out an attack on the consulate earlier this year.
