Local ABC affiliate KHOG fact-checked Democratic Senator Mark Pryor for his claim that the "middle class" in Arkansas makes up to $200,000 per year.
"Probably up to 200,000," Pryor said during a debate with Republican challenger Tom Cotton on Tuesday night. "There's different definitions, but that's my working definition."
Kathy Deck, director of the Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Arkansas, told KHOG that Pryor's guess was wildly off-base.
"It's big--it's everywhere from about $20,000 all the way up to $75,000," Deck said.
Deck's says her numbers come from the U.S. census and that very few people make $200,000 or more in Arkansas.
So much for Pryor's definition of "middle class."
