Sen. Cory Booker (D., N.J.) on Tuesday seemed bullish on Democrats winning back the House of Representatives, addressing House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) as "Speaker Pelosi."
At a press conference featuring Democrats and "Dreamers," the term for immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children, Pelosi handed off the microphone to Booker, who she called a leader on advocating for the right of Dreamers to stay in the United States.
"Thank you very much, Speaker Pelosi–maybe two years too early–but Speaker Pelosi," Booker said.
Pelosi smiled but said nothing at the comment.
When asked by the Washington Post's Karen Tumulty on Monday what the Democrats' top priority would be if they win back the majority this year, Pelosi said it wasn't about her.
"Well, first of all, it’s not about me getting the gavel back. I just want the Democrats to have the gavel back," Pelosi said. "It’s not about me."
Pelosi became the first female Speaker of the House when during the 2006 midterms Democrats won back the majority in the House. She lost the gavel when Republicans took the House in 2010, and they have held it ever since.
