Rockefeller Claims Brennan Had 'Nothing' to Do with Drones

February 7, 2013

Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D., W.V.) claimed Thursday John Brennan had "nothing" to do with the Obama administration's drone program in advance of the confirmation hearing for Brennan's nomination to director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

"As the deputy executive director of the C.I.A. during that period, if he didn't know, shouldn't he have known?" Andrea Mitchell asked Rockefeller of the drone program, in an interview Thursday afternoon.

"He could have known, but could have had nothing to do with it at all," Rockefeller replied. "He did have nothing to do with it."

As described in the New York TimesBrennan "has served as the principal coordinator of a 'kill list' of Qaeda operatives marked for death, overseeing drone strikes by the military and the C.I.A., and advising Mr. Obama on which strikes he should approve."
