Richard Engel: Obama Admin Has Done Nothing To Deter Putin

'He got away with Crimea, and he could very possibly get away with eastern Ukraine as well'

NBC's Richard Engel says Vladmir Putin has no "interest in de-escalating" and the Obama administrations weak response to Putin’s Ukraine aggression has done nothing to deter him.

"I don’t think he has any interest in de-escalating. Vladmir Putin, based on all the conversations I’ve had with many analysts over the last several months is a person who likes tension, he thrives under stress, he likes the brinksmanship," Engel said Tuesday on MSNBC’s Jansing & Co.

Host Chris Jansing then asked Engel if Putin could be deterred from his current acts of aggression.

"He can be deterred, he would react to deterrence, but so far there hasn’t been any," he said.

"He got away with Crimea, and he could very possibly get away with eastern Ukraine as well," Engel added.
