McAuliffe’s GreenTech Failure

Democrat Terry McAuliffe’s, time as head of the electric car company GreenTech appears to be a serious liability, in his quest to become Virginia’s next governor.

In 2009, McAuliffe promised that GreenTech would bring 1,500 jobs to the United States. He then decided to bring the company’s operations to Mississippi instead of Virginia. However, the company created just 78 jobs.

WWBT’s Jon Thompson traveled to Mississippi to find out what GreenTech accomplished. Thompson interviewed several disappointed residents who described the business as "not feasible" and a "pie in the sky."

When asked yesterday why he chose to open the plant in Mississippi, McAuliffe responded, "it is what it is."

Memos from Virginia officials expressed "grave doubts" about GreenTech’s business model and suggested the company’s financing served as a "visa-for-sale scheme" for Chinese investors.
