NBC’s Chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel appeared on MSNBC's Morning Joe Friday morning and said the violence in Iraq is becoming increasingly worse.
"The Mayor of Mosul just told us moments ago [that] those from ISIS have begun to impose Sharia law, " he reported.
ISIS militants are advancing towards Baghdad, where they hope to take over. They are just about 40 miles from the outskirts of it. It has not yet been determined whether they will enter the city or if they will wait and gather more weapons before entering.
Engel also said that officials in Mosul report that ISIS militants stole over $400 million in cash from the Central Bank, "which would make them the richest terrorist group in the world."
He warned, "When you have money and dedication and weapons, that means a lot of power. The people in Baghdad are very concerned, the Shiite government is very concerned.."
