DeSantis: Cuba Can Use Beyonce, Jay-Z For 'Propaganda Purposes'

'We need to stand up for the Cuban people here in Congress and not for the Castro regime'

Rep. Ron DeSantis (R., Fla.) backed the recent speech by Sen. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) slamming the Treasury Department for licensing Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles' anniversary vacation in Cuba, saying Wednesday on Fox News that their star power made them useful propaganda pieces for the country's communist government.

"That is not helping the Cuban economy or the Cuban people, it's helping the Castro regime," DeSantis said. "Moreover, I think the regime will use this trip by two huge stars, they will use that for propaganda purposes. I just wish they would have thought about this before they decided to make the trip. Cuba is unique in our hemisphere for the political oppression that the Castro regime inflicts on its people ... We need to stand up for the Cuban people here in Congress and not for the Castro regime."
