British Reporter Shoots Live Broadcast While Being Detained by Chinese Police

'This is a classic example of the way things seem to work sometimes in China'

A British reporter kept his broadcast to London rolling while he was being detained in Tiananmen Square in Beijing last week.

Sky News reporter Mark Stone believes he was arrested by Chinese police for discussing the 1989 protests during a routine report about China’s recent change in leadership.

In the video of his detainment, Stone explains that the police seem unaware that the camera is capturing a live image, not simply recording a video to be edited and broadcast later.

Stone and his crew were taken in a police van to an unmarked location he thinks was located on the outskirts of the Forbidden City.

Near the end of the video, an English speaking police officer explains to Stone that they must stop filming because he does not hold the proper media permits for filming in the new location.

The officer then asks Stone to "wait patiently" in an empty classroom for another official to show up.
